Approach to Mt Borah, Highest Point in Idaho

Old summit trail, now a deep rut.

Current entry point to summit trail, designed to keep out undesirables.

Currently no fee to camp.

The earthquake fault line, still visible after 28 years.

Mt Borah as viewed from further North has an imposing north face.  Not visible or climbed as part of the normal route.

Irrigation ditch, still flowing.  I camped near this feature on my first visit.

Adjacent mountains in the Lost River Range.  Not as imposing as I recall from my first venture when covered in snow.  It was Memorial Day weekend on a year long ago when I climbed Mt Borah.

Challis Hot Springs

My personal travel journey in which are logged my life's sporadic activities as to suitable and notable events.

At Challis: 120543
                    119667
                   ---------
876 miles in two days; S----- and C------ would not have enjoyed this trip, greater than three hundred miles and four hours of driving.  It would have taken two nights  rather than one to get here.  Then the activities would be boring; for C------ and J-----, nothing to do.  But S----- would come up with some restaurant or shopping, blah, blah.

As it is real mild and restful with the breeze blowing through the cotton wood trees - the dog yelping locked in an RV - all day continious.  The small fox looking dog not on a leash barks.

Then I talked to a family of three on a month long road trip tenting in their Hondy Odyessa.  From San Francisco to Canada, Calgary included.  The boy's name was Alex, quite informed regarding cell phones and recommending METROPCS, just http://www.metro.com/ and enter your zip code.  The best deal! The boy was entering the seventh grade next year in school.  So this proves it can be done and families do long road trips. But not S-----.  I tricked myself should be my reply to her saying "You tricked me." I also tricked C----- and myself (again).

Mt Borah had changed, modernization of trail head to preserve its character and give an early sagebrush start.  The older access showed a deep eroded where the trail once went. "The Lost River Range" was the range I fantasized  over their awesome summits; they didn't look as imposing without snow.  Mt Borah shows an imposing north slope further up the valley.

How shall I return? Back the way I came and camp at Hoback?  Easiest, quickest.  Down to Nevada and I-80 across Great Salt Lake and then I-80 across Wyoming.

So this camping can be boring.  Nap a couple of times, then?  Read a book.  Where in Idaho did William Least Heat Moon travel? Moscow, very north area passing into Montanna.  The family from San Francisco mentioned going to Glacier National Monument and beyond to Calgary.

Last night I ate half of my steak and mushrooms with onions sauteed in red wind after the sun went down. It is now 5:45 PM, couple of more hours of sunshine remain.  I'm hungry, or think it is time to eat, now.

7/20/2011

Off from Challis Hot Springs at 10:30 AM.

2:50 PM

Rexburg -  $67.28 for 18.337 gallons of gas at $3.669 per gallon, but no mileage.

9:15 PM

Hoback Campground.

Been here about three hours, arrived at 6:15 PM.  Pretty lush flowers, wet, mosquitoes.  Wild flowers were/are incredible. Yellow, blue, white blossoms against an all green background of several greens all at once forming the matrix!  Here's where I surrpetitiously, without paying the camp fee, cooked and ate a breakfast of bacon and bacon basted over easy eggs.  A morning I recall, from what adventure I do not.  (This was before camp hosts came into being - can you believe how long ago that must have been?

Another couple who befriended greyhounds and whippets - going where the whim takes them, he's been at it for five months, she for half that.  Four dogs, two greyhounds and two whippets.  One larger greyhound was a blondish red in color like a golden retriever.

7/21/2011

8:30 AM off from Hoback Camp Ground

120871 mileage

"If the white man had never came, everything would still be the same."

Inspired by Astorians story on historical marker.

Rock Springs 11:20 AM

121028 $40.70 for 11.437 gallons at $3.559 per gallon.

121437 on return to Colorado Springs at 7 PM.  Spent one hour driving stop and go traffic to get though Denver from North to South on I-25.

Post trip note.  Is it possible to avoid the I-25 traffic.  The couple I chatted with at Hoback said they avoided the Interstates.  Perhaps I could do the same if I decide to return to Idaho.  Colorado Springs to Dillion to Steamboat Springs to Kemmering, etc appears feasible. More miles, more time, less hassle perhaps.  I returned by way of Salmon, Idaho driving HWY 93 from Challis to Salmon and then HWY 28 to Rexburg and Victor taking Wilson Pass back to Jackson. There were lots of camping opportunities along these routes, camping by the rivers.  I did not venture into Jackson, traffic all jammed up.

Rexburg was a pretty little Idaho town with a population of about 17,000.  Home to BYU-Idaho, indicative of the large LDS population.  The racial demographics list NSD for the black percentage.  The residents are 95% LDS.  The town's Walmart is not a Super Center.  The grocery section was small, mostly dry goods with a section of refrigerated items in cases. No deli or bakery, etc.

On Base Percentage

On Base Percentage
In 2002 Billy Beane, the General Manager of the Oakland A’s baseball team, had a problem.  The issue was finding money for payroll.  As General Manager it fell under his responsibility to recruit players who would bring his team into the playoffs, and hopefully, the world championship.  The money issue was simple – there was none, or at least not enough to have any realistic expectations of recruiting the star players in the highly competitive baseball league.
To give you an example of the payroll disparity Beane was looking at, in 2002 the New York Yankees allocated close to $126 million to compensate their athletes. The Oakland A’s were only allowed $34.4 million. This difference of $91.6 million was unquestionably going to be the difference between winning a World Series or being the laughing stock of professional baseball.
Perhaps more than any American sport, baseball is deeply rooted in tradition. The game has not fundamentally changed over the last 165 years, and in many regards the way the game was viewed has not significantly changed either.  That is until Billy Beane became desperate and necessity truly became the mother of invention.
For years Billy felt the metrics used to measure potential players were not as accurate as they should be.  The idea that batting averages, runs batted in, and the tradition of focusing on High School athletes versus proven College recruits made no sense to him.  With his assistant, Paul DePodesta, Billy announced to his seasoned scouts that the way they recruited players was changing. They would no longer follow what they had previous done, and after analyzing hundreds of players statistics they determined the most important metric in measuring a potential ball player was a formula they called ‘On Base Percentage.
Simply stated, On Base Percentage is the measure of how often a batter reaches a base for any reason.  In their eyes, the “how” a batter got on base did not matter.  The fact that he did get on base was most important.  As they reviewed possible recruits they found some players just had a natural talent for getting on base.  Many of these players did not meet the traditional standard of major league scouts, so they fell under the radar of the majority of teams.  This created an opportunity for Billy Beane to recruit these players at a price Oakland could afford.
The success the 2002 Oakland A’s found was impressive. The team had 103 wins and only 59 losses, and broke an American League record for consecutive wins.  From August 13th  – September 4th the Oakland A’s won 20 consecutive games and made it to the playoffs.
I believe there’s a lesson here.  Just because something is imbedded in tradition, or a system in place is “the way we have always done it,” doesn’t mean there isn’t a better way.  It does mean there are multiple paths to success.  I know in each of our lives and businesses there are opportunities for improvement.  By doing some of our own number crunching and thinking outside the box, we may find our own “On Base Percentage,” which could be the difference between falling short or making it to the playoffs.

Bishop formation on SOLR

When ADX is greater than 40 and turns red, this is an immediate sell signal, dubbed the "Bishop".

Does it also follow that one should not buy when ADX is greater than 40 because a down turn could happen any day?

Success Principles

Just a quick reminder about the Success Principles that will help you on your way to success:

Rich People are excellent receivers. Poor people are poor receivers.

Do you embrace compliments? Do you feel obligated to immediately reciprocate when you receive a gift? Many people are comfortable giving, and only partially or selectively comfortable with receiving.

To Your Success,

The Peak State of Mind Team

Ability to Receive

Peak State of Mind (PSOM) put on a webinar on this topic.  Here's what came up for me.

Wealth principle is about receiving, work on your receiving muscle, always.  Allow the universe to deliver wonderful things, more and more, living in an abundant Universe. Make a conscious effort, be open to receiving the gifts of the Universe.  Everything is energy.  Rich people are excellant receivers, poor people are poor receivers. Pay people a compliment, see how they receive it.  Do they deflect it or take it well.

A webinar exercise including asking you to list three to five things that you think are really great about yourself but your wouldn't publicly claim such as I'm good looking, I have great taste, etc.

I wrote: I am a healthy, rich, old, white guy.

How do you feel about these things.  Then, they talked about our thermostat - financial blue print set so low.  Conditioning about feeling we are not "good enough"  (I can relate to that, it also applies to my possessions - they're just never "good enough")  This comes from hearing about what's wrong more than we hear about what's right about ourselves.  We're not worthy.  Don't live up to expectations. Conditioning doesn't end as adults.  We subconscioulsy punish ourselves.  Some people use the feeling of unworthiness as a motivator to get rich.  To be rich and happy is the goal.  Remember - "Nothing has meaning except the meaning you give it"

What's your story?  If its your unworthy and you don't like it, make up a more supportive story.  May be a huge opportunity to make a change.  Change your story,  its a lot simpler to change your story than change your worthiness.

Did you grow up with the conditioning that it is considered virtuous to be modest and poor?  Feeling of guilts, how much better to have abundance so you can help others.  Exercise:  write down which of these makes you feel best?
  1. Watching your friend open a present that you gave
  2. Receiving a check for more in a week than your spouse makes in year
  3. Gifting a year long pass to Disney World to a nephew
  4. A friend who drives a ten year old sedan complimenting you on your new expensive car.
A balanced answer should be that all of these should make you fell good, just in different ways.

Giving and receiving are interconnected, can't have one without the other.  Embrace your abundance as a model to others.

"I am an excellant receiver.  I am open and willing to receive massive amounts of money into my life."

Print and hang up these declarations, say them out loud, with gusto, with passion.  Play big, put your hand on your heart and recite these declaration.

How do you feel when you want to give someone something and they deflect it - won't receive it.  How does this make you feel - unappreciated, rejected, disappointed, lousy,

Everthing is energy, energy gets stuck and turns into negative emotion, can train the Universe to withhold abundance.

Think about your best self, the little things you do well, your infinite capacity, give yourself a hug, take a breath.  Write down this statement.

"By the power invested in me, I herebye declare that I am worthy of great things from now until forevermore."  Say this as a declaration, declare it to the Universe.  Pat yourself on the back.

Money is Energy

Money makes you more of what you are; a mirror of yourself.  Money and energy will go somewhere else if you don't accept it.

If you are greedy and will stab in the back for money , then this is how the Universe will treat you.

Action Steps:
  1. Respond to compliments by saying "Thank you" only, no deflections.  Do not minimize compliment, fully embrace the compliment and say "Thank you".  Don't refuse, simply accept.
  2. When money comes into your life, for example a pay check, embrace and celebrate it with "I am a money magnet."  Become excited, especially when the money is unexpected.
  3. Use play money to feel extravagant and rich and deserving. Rather spend an hour on a yacht than a year in a row boat.  Show the Universe this is how you envision living.  (Possibilites - rent a Range Rover, go to Casa Blanca resort in Mesquite, NV for massage/spa package.)
The Universe is abundant, and if the Universe wants to deliver another person or wealth, you must be open to receive wealth or that person into your life.  You must feel worthy to receive.

Be open to receive all that the Universe wants to deliver because you are deserving to receive every gift. Have fun with receiving, it is life altering.  Receiving becomes a way of living, love your life, turn focus onto masterpiece of your life, do the things that give you joy, experience the art of living well, live with energy, abundance, use strategies that feel good in your life.

Do you keep your story alive because it gives you a sense of victim hood?  Elect to say that was fine and dandy then, but now nothing has meaning except for the meaning you give it.  Change your story, use VAKS, use MMI declarations.

One foot on gas, one foot on brake, some folks have success but find ways to sabotage themselves, celebrate that you know what your experience has been.  Use declarations about positive outcomes for money.  Allow your self to live a life of consistent progress.

FW: French Polish - first coat over seal coat

My recipe for sunburst finish using blonde and amber lacquer didn't work out.  I ended up scraping with a single edge razor blade and re-sanding the top.  This left slight traces of amber, and a new gash; a slightly distressed look.  Not quite what I had in mind.

FW: Hot Hands ETF's Correlation

Skip,
I looked into the correlation between the Hot Hand ETFs.  I think this tends to show uncorrelated ETFs.
Incidentally, my Fidelity accounts are not set up to allow buying of short or leveraged ETFs without additional paperwork forms.  So these are not the true top performing funds which are for sophisticated and rich investors who are willing to lose on their trades.
With the exception of SOXS which is the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bear 3X, the rest are the top 9 from the screen on ETFScreen.com with no short or leverage ETFs included and more than 1,000,000 share volume.
Interestingly SOXS is negatively correlated with every thing else.  Is that good or bad?  The newsletter I read reports 1 month growth of 34% while ETF Screen reports
-1.1%.  The newletter has its month from May to June 17, ETF Screen has latest month as of today I assume.  How could it change that much?
When in doubt, get out - thtatwas Courtney's advice earlier this evening.
