Nancy's Jewelry Box

Top View.

I created this jewelry box for the wife of a friend ... an inspiring special request.

The top and bottom frames and the body sides are Paduak wood.  The top panel is Maple plywood colored by rubbing Paduak dust into the grain.  This top panel is finished to a high gloss consisting of several coats of Salad Bowl Finish by General Finishes.

The corners are miter joints with Ebony keys.  The overall size is approximately 13 x 9 x 3 inches.

The Paduak wood finish consists of three coats of Orange Oil by General Finishes followed by three coats of clear BRIWAX wax.

Corner View

The top frame overhangs the front and sides of the body by 1/8 inch and is flush on the rear. The bottom frame is 1/4 inches larger than the body on all sides.  The outside of the bottom edges of the front and sides of the top frame are beveled at 45 degrees for 1/8 inch creating an easy grip for opening the very light weight lid.

Rear View

The four hinges are set flush into the back of the rear side.  The rear of the top frame is flush to the rear of the body.

Interior

The interior dividers are also of Paduak wood.  The bottom is lined with black Velveteen.  The underside of the top panel is the rough side  of the Maple plywood and is stained with Antique Maple finish and a few coats of Salad Bowl Dressing.

Tray

A movable interior tray of Ebony is included.
